At the Munich-Centre for Advanced Photonics (MAP) physicists, chemists, biologists and physicians develop forward-looking light- and laser-driven particle sources. The cluster is domiciled at the Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich. MAP is one of the leading institutions in the field of international laser sciences. Within the framework of MAP the new laser research centrum “Centre for Advanced Laser Applications” emerges on the research campus Garching near Munich.
By now light can be controlled perfectly – from its temporal spread to frequency control. There hardly is a task light isn’t up to. With the help of the new light sources MAP-researchers are able to gain detailed insight into the microcosm of animate and inanimate matter; they pry the secrets out of the quantum world. In combination with innovative imaging techniques the light sources will enable the researchers to understand the improvement of sometimes still incurable diseases significantly and will also help to implement new therapeutic approaches.
